You will also get lots of useful insight into the materials, tools, processes and equipment used together with plenty of interesting bits of historical information.

Jude has taught and tutored students throughout her long career, including teaching the advanced diploma City & Guilds Stained Glass Course.
Several of her former students and trainees have gone on to establish their own stained glass studios.

Courses are limited to small groups thus ensuring maximum individual attention as required.

All courses are held at Jude’s working studio in Vanguard Court, Camberwell, a cobble-stoned inner-city oasis and home to a thriving community of dedicated, professional artists and creatives.

This short course is designed for newcomers and beginners. Immerse yourself in the joy of stained glass making for 2 full days.

Whether you are a complete novice or have previously completed a 1 or 2 day course and would like to practise your skills and make another small panel, this weekend is also suitable for you.

You will be guided through the steps and skills needed to create a simple glass piece using traditional stained glass making techniques.
As making stained glass involves learning new skills using unfamiliar materials, tools and equipment, a choice of appropriate designs is provided for you to make.

Throughout the course you will have access to Jude’s extensive knowledge & expertise through demonstrations, hands-on making, individual one-to-one tuition and guidance according to your needs.

You will also get lots of useful insight into the materials, tools, processes and equipment used together with plenty of interesting bits of historical information.

The course will cover:

– cleaning and finishing

Glass fusing is the technique used to bond glass pieces together by melting the glass at high temperature in a kiln.  Slumping is when the glass is heated in the kiln and moulded into shape.

Amazing creative pieces can be made by using this techniques. Glass fusing & slumping is an accessible and rewarding art form for all levels and all abilities.

Experience the joys of this limitless process.  This weekend is designed to introduce you to the possibilities of these techniques. Whether you’re new to glass fusing or have tried it before, this weekend is designed for you.

The course will cover:

– how to cut glass

– using glass powders, frits and stringers

– making textures

– fusing at different temperatures

– fusing in layers

– fusing insertions

– slumping as part of the fusing process

– slumping after fusing into moulds

– kiln firing & preparation

You will complete a number of pieces and will be involved in actual kiln preparation and firings.

This weekend course is designed for those who wish to learn about traditional stained glass painting & staining techniques. Students will be introduced to techniques that have been used for centuries. No previous glass experience is necessary.

It is not necessary to have any prior painting or drawing experience in other mediums to learn these techniques.

The course is also suitable for those who have completed a stained glass or a fusing & slumping weekend or other stained glass courses.

During the course of the weekend we will cover:
– mixing & applying glass paint.

– how to select and use the right brushes

– working with wet paint

– working with dry paint

– mixing & applying stain

– kiln preparation

– firing for painting & staining

Students will complete at least 2 painted & stained pieces over the weekend.

This workshop course is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in stained glass design and making for 5 consecutive days.

It’s perfect for those who have done some stained glass before, maybe a weekend or short course, and would like to make their own panel but require guidance and help.  The workshop will help you gain confidence and deepen your understanding of stained glass skills. It is also suitable for advanced students who need the studio facilities and equipment for making.

This 5 day opportunity is also designed for those who have some experience but need a space to make their own panel.

You will have access to Jude’s extensive stained glass design and making experience throughout the whole of the workshop with design guidance, demonstrations, hands-on making, one-to-one tuition with lots of insight and useful information.

You will need to give some thought to your panel design prior to attending the course and prepare some colour sketches or designs to bring along.  If you are making a panel to install in an existing window or for a specific location, the design ideas and the size of the panel will need to be approved before the start of the course.  It must be feasible to complete the panel in 5 days.
