Jude is an experienced and inspiring tutor dedicated to bringing out the very best in every student.

Throughout every course and workshop you will have ongoing access to her extensive knowledge and experience through demonstrations, hands-on making, individual tuition and guidance. You will also get lots of useful insight into the materials, tools, processes and equipment used together with plenty of interesting bits of historical information.

Jude has taught and tutored students throughout her long career, including teaching the advanced diploma City & Guilds Stained Glass Course.
Several of her former students and trainees have gone on to establish their own stained glass studios.

Courses are limited to small groups thus ensuring maximum individual attention as required.

All courses are held at Jude’s working studio in Vanguard Court, Camberwell, a cobble-stoned inner-city oasis and home to a thriving community of dedicated, professional artists and creatives.

This short taster course is designed for newcomers to stained glass. You will be guided through the steps and skills needed to create a small glass panel using traditional stained glass making techniques.

The course will cover:

Glass fusing is the technique used to bond glass pieces together by melting the glass at high temperature in a kiln.  Slumping is when the glass is heated in the kiln and moulded into shape.

Amazing creative pieces can be made by using this techniques. Glass fusing & slumping is an accessible and rewarding art form for all levels and all abilities.

Experience the joys of this limitless process.  This weekend is designed to introduce you to the possibilities of these techniques. Whether you’re new to glass fusing or have tried it before, this weekend is designed for you.

The course will cover:

-how to cut glass

-using glass powders, frits and stringers

-making textures

-fusing at different temperatures

-fusing in layers

-fusing insertions

-slumping as part of the fusing process

-slumping after fusing into moulds

-kiln firing & preparation

You will complete a number of pieces and will be involved in actual kiln preparation and firings.

This workshop course is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in stained glass design and making for 5 consecutive days.

It’s perfect for those who have done some stained glass before, maybe a weekend or short course, and would like to make their own panel but still require guidance and help.

This 5 day opportunity is also designed for those who have some experience but need a space to make their own panel.

You will have access to Jude’s extensive stained glass design and making experience throughout the whole of the course with tutorials, demonstrations, hands-on making, one-to-one tuition and lots of insight and useful information.

You will need to give some thought to your panel design prior to attending the course and prepare some colour sketches or designs to bring along.  If you are making a panel to install in an existing window or for a specific location, the design ideas and the size of the panel will need to be approved before the start of the course.  It must be feasible to complete the panel in 5 days.

This course is perfect if you have previously attended a one or two day class as it will help you gain confidence and deepen your understanding of stained glass skills. It is also suitable for advanced students who need the studio facilities and equipment for making.

Copper-foiling, sometimes referred to as the Tiffany technique, is a simple and versatile stained glass making technique. It is more ‘lightweight’ than traditional leaded stained glass and is ideal for small panels, sun-catchers, lampshades and other 3D objects.

This course is ideal for beginners and new-comers to glass.  It may also be of interest to those who have worked in other glass techniques and who want to broaden their skills.

On this one day introductory course students will complete a hanging sun-catcher to take home.

The course will cover all the basic aspects of copper-foiling including:

-glass cutting to a simple pattern

-application of the copper-foil
